The Open Source Summit is a 2-½-day event featuring structured discussion about the open source movement in education. Because the open source alternative to proprietary software is rapidly changing the options available for campus software, it is important for key decision makers to have as much interaction with the concept as possible. The Open Source Summit will address open source as it impacts learning processes, development options, the economics for technology on campus, and international participation in campus systems.
The Open Source Summit will be held in Scottsdale, Arizona, December 1-3, 2004 at the Westin Kierland Resort.
The Open Source Summit offers various types of sessions:
• Four general plenary sessions featuring notable speakers such as John Seely Brown and Paul Elsner.
• A Strategic Track will feature 4 sessions that focus on key decision factors in campus adoption of open source technology.
• An Academic Track will feature 4 sessions that discuss the potential for academic technology created by open source adoption.
• Presentation of key open source projects illustrating the merits and adoption rationale of these initiatives.
The Open Source Summit is to be limited in attendance to further facilitate active discussion between the speakers, panelists, and attendees. This truly will be a interactive event.
