At the Kyushu-Okinawa Summit in July 2000, the leaders of the G8 major industrialized democracies focused considerable attention on the impact of information technologies and the growing risks of a global "digital divide". The Okinawa Charter on the Global Information Society detailed these challenges and called for the creation of a Digital Opportunity Task Force (DOT Force).

This Digital Opportunity Task Force, composed of members from the public, private and not-for-profit sectors and including participants from developed and developing countries, met for the first time in Tokyo on November 27-28, 2000. In the coming months, through a series of formal plenary meetings, informal meetings, and public consultations, the DOT Force will prepare a report with concrete recommendations on how the G8 can contribute to creating digital opportunity for all and bridging the global digital divide.

This website will serve as an information resource on the DOT Force process, and a link to various opportunities for public consultation and input into that process. This site is, like the DOT Force report itself, a work in progress, and we invite you to return regularly for updates.

For inquiries contact the DOT Force secretariat at info@dotforce.org
