Software open source, un’ottima alternativa a Windows Vista

Becta, l’autorevole British Educational Communications and Technology Agency ha pubblicato un rapporto in gennaio che sconsiglia di adottare i nuovi sistemi lanciati da Microsoft. Secondo Becta le novità di Microsoft non offrono funzioni indispensabili per le scuole ed anzi l’introduzione dei nuovi programmi potrebbero essere un vero e proprio rischio dal punto di vista tecnico, organizzativo ed economico.
In Italia l’associazione Didasca ha dotato le scuole della rete cyber schools del sistema operativo openSUSE, un vero e proprio alter ego del sistema operativo Windows Vista, e della suite OpenOffice, alternativa a Office 2007. Rilasciato da Novell, openSUSE consente agli utenti di Windows 2000 / XP che sono impossibilitati a passare a Windows Vista per ragioni tecniche, come la scarsità di risorse hardware, o economiche, come la scarsità di risorse finanziarie, di godere comunque delle più significative funzionalità offerte da Windows Vista.
